Introduction.

I arrived at the “green hut”, a sort of temporary looking structure made from a series of porta cabins, with chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. Everyone is super friendly and welcoming.

I am told that the sifu won’t come, he’s unavailable due to family affairs. Training starts straight away anyway, beginning with the first moves of the first form, called “Siu Lim Tau” .

  1. Show respect, right fist meets left stretched out hand
  2. Go into stance:  hands form relaxed fists, knuckles facing down,  next to the chest. Feet rotate first outwards over the heel, then changing weight to the toes,  rotate out over the toes to come to rest pointing inwards, legs bend, with knees above the toes. This should be a comfortable, stable and relaxed stance. Practice makes perfect.
  3. Strike with the extended hands against the opponent’s abdomen. Hands are crossed, upright with left one on top.
  4. Pull back and rotate hands so palms face up. is should look like a “bird” symbol used by children. The fingers are pointing in opposite direction outwards, joining at the wrist, the first bone of each thumb form the striking edge.

After practice, I was shown boxing from the centre and boxing/chasing training.

A lot of intense corrections on angles, distances and positioning throughout. Motoric centre overload ensued.
